Holiday Nourishment

With school holidays finally here, families are relaxing or getting ready for a trip away and those still working appreciate the lighter traffic and general ‘quietness’ that comes with holidays.  Autumn brings a breathing out for all of us and we look towards those activities we’ve been wanting to learn or do but haven’t had the time.   Finally we get the chance to find a great book to read or a new jigsaw for the table for everyone to help with, time for games and laughter, for creating with crafts of all sorts, drawing and painting, days full of imaginative play or time to gently enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of our shop with a cuppa and handmade organic delights.

Calendar of the Soul

Have you ever contemplated the effect of the changing seasons of the year on your inner life?  Have you ever worked with Rudolf Steiner’s Calendar of the Soul?  “In listening week by week to the changing language of the year, the soul will find a way to discover also its own nature: it will realize how forces are stirring within its being and giving it new life and strength.”  Rudolf Steiner in ‘The Illustrated Calendar of the Soul’.

A new pubSeasons of the Soullication by Michael Hedley Burton brings something quite new to working with these verses.  Burton is the author of ‘In the Light of a Child’, where the verses were given in a form appropriate for children.  Now, in his new book, ‘Seasons of the Soul’, he offers verses that have been freely paraphrased and translated, and combines them with original poems in which he hopes to “release some of the incredible concentration” of the verses in German.  His foreword and introductory chapters contain an exploration of some of the questions relating to working with the calendar in the southern hemisphere and the tropics.  Anybody who has worked with the Calendar of the Soul, or wanted to, will find a work of immense value in this book.

Calendar 1912 - 1913 Another publication we have in stock is a ‘Facsimile Edition of the original book containing the calendar created by Rudolf Steiner for the year 1912-13’.  It contains an English introduction, the Facsimile Edition (in German) containing monthly, weekly and daily cosmic references, a translation of all the verses, and Rudolf Steiner’s sketches.  It is a fascinating book for the dedicated student.

Workshops, Term 1, 2013

We are excited to offer some different types of workshop at The Honeyclock in Term 1 of 2013.  We still have felting and pastel drawing for those of you eager to get your hands busy and your heart singing with the joy of creating.  Add to that the possibility of creating a fashion talking piece in the form of a button necklace, made with all your old buttons!  But we’re adding some ‘life classes’ too!  Some opportunities to talk and share, to discuss matters close to your heart, and to learn some new ways of thinking about things.   All the information is on our WORKSHOP  page.  We look forward to your interest!  Give us a call to book your place and, even better, find a friend to bring too!

How do you celebrate Christmas?

How do you celebrate Christmas in your family?  When you become parents, you get an opportunity to think about this in a different way.  What traditions from your own childhood do you carry forward?  Are there things you want to do differently?  It dawns on you that you are creating your children’s memories – and the urge to make Christmas special and meaningful burns brightly.

Getting together with family – sharing food and gifts and time together – feature in most people’s picture.  Can we call this ‘honey time’? Time that is sweet and fluid and oh so nourishing.

But it’s not all sweetness and light, is it? It can turn out to be a very stressful time of the year.   Getting together with family often opens old wounds and there are so many things happening at this time of year that it can get a bit much: the school year finishes, summer holidays need to be prepared for, office parties, neighbourhood gatherings, Christmas cards to send, baking and gift buying… It can be a time of contradictions.

Here at The Honeyclock, we wish for you some sweet honey time.  Relaxed, stress-free, uncomplicated.  Some time to connect with your dear ones and nourish yourself.  We wish for you a lovely break!

And, if you’re still not quite ready for Christmas or stocked up on your Dr Hauschka or cleaning needs for the three weeks we will be closed, pop in to The Honeyclock this week and see us!  Our latest newsletter  gives you a brief overview of our shop and some of what we have to offer you this Christmas…
