Moving with the winds

As many of you will know The Honeyclock has been for sale since February.  Our buyer doesn’t seem to have found their way to us just yet however we are still hopeful they are on their way.  In the mean time we have discovered we will need to vacate our current premises and so our last trading day in our current light filled shop will be Saturday 14 June, that’s about 6 weeks away.
If you are not on our mailing list or our ‘friend’ on Facebook, or following our ‘blog’ and you want to stay up to date with where we move to please send us your email address and we can add you to our ‘moving notification’ list and keep you fully informed and up to date with our movements.
In the meantime make sure you come in and see us and stock up on all your favourite goodies while stocks last

Stories and Storytelling

And Then Story Starters Vol2And Then… Story Starters Vol 2

When we tell our own imaginative stories a whole new world opens up.  Sometimes they can be a bit tricky to begin so here are 20 story starters to help.  What kind of story will you tell –  A long story, a short story, a story that takes place in a faraway land, a story right here at home, a story filled with bright colours and mysterious characters and all kinds of unexpected things.

Storytelling with Children by Nancy Mellon

Storytelling with Children“Many people are surprise at  that young children what them to make up stories.   Yet it doesn’t take long to realise how meeting their need for stories creates a sense of warmth, family & community.   This book has been written to stimulate your direct experience of the wise and benevolent creative forces which, however dormant, are in each and every one of us.”

SCAN0005The Power of Stories by Horst Kornberger

This is a fascinating and inspiring book for teachers, parents or carers of children, as well as creative writers and students of literature.  ‘This beautifully written and wise book taps into a deep source, the spring of imagination. The author […] gives very helpful examples of certain stories particularly well-suited to different ages, explaining how each matches and reflects the child’s developing consciousness. If you have anything to do with children, buy this book. If you have anything to do with yourself, buy it as well.”  — Matthew Barton, New View, summer 2007

Jill says Goodbye

Thank you to all the dear friends and customers-who-have-become-friends who have popped in or emailed to say goodbye.  The Honeyclock has been a beautiful place to work, and I have especially loved the conversations.

The world does need dedicated teachers, and I am excited to be ‘heeding the call’ to meet a new group of children and their families, and to be part of a school community once again.

But I would also say that the world needs beautiful places like The Honeyclock that represent a choice for ethical and sustainable living.  Sharon and I have worked with dedication and commitment to create the place of beauty and peacefulness that is The Honeyclock, and we love doing it.  What I would urge you all to realise on a very personal level is that it takes your financial choices in order for it and similar shops to exist and to flourish.  I would urge you to continue supporting The Honeyclock, and to spread the word.  That way, Sharon will get the support she needs in order to keep doing what she does so well.

Thank you for your support over the past few years, and your conversations.  I’m sure I will see many of you again.
With fond regards,
Jill

Jill Is Leaving

Our beloved Jill is leaving The Honeyclock.  She purchased it with Sharon when it was still known as Southern Aurora Books & Gifts, 3 years ago.  It was to be her retirement after teaching – ‘owning a bookshop and spending your days reading’, she couldn’t think of anything better.  But alas, she has decided teaching is what makes her sing and she is returning to sing her song with another group of children and all of the wonderful adventures that it brings.   This will be her last week so make sure you pop in and see her on Wednesday or Friday afternoon.   Good bye Jill, it has been great having you and your amazing energy in our shop – we will miss you and all your expertise.  We all send you  love and wishes and sloppy kisses.

Tree alone As the cooler Autumn mornings begin to turn your attention inward to the gentle task of creating, where will you begin?  With new inspiration sent by changeable weather, with memories picked up from unfinished projects, longing to be completed or will you look within to see what new perspectives you can discover there.  Where will you begin?

This term we offer you a sprinkling of workshops, from a free Creative Morning to a knitting workshop beginning with the humble square, soft pastel drawings: looking at ‘the tree’ in all of us and a talk on resilience, in you and your family.   For full information see our workshop page.

The Quiet Heart – Book Discussion Group

The Quiet HeartBeing a book lover from long ago, you might say I’m in seventh heaven owning a book shop!  So many wonderful books…  On the other hand, I do think it’s possible to read too much!  I believe we need time to assimilate what we read otherwise it just becomes information overload.   I chose The Quiet Heart by Dr Peter Gruenwald for the first book for The Honeyclock Book Discussion Group and took it home about a month ago to have a bit of a look.  Normally, I would finish a book this size in a day or two, maybe a week if I was really busy – but not this one!  Talk about needing time to assimilate!  Very early in the book, Dr Gruenwald describes his ‘Heart Breathing’ exercise, a type of imaginative meditation technique.  Straight away, I have incorporated this into my morning meditation.  I found it remarkably easy to begin, and also to maintain.  It’s simple, and yet I find myself wanting to really get the hang of it before I move on further in the book.  One of the next things is a Core Values Worksheet – it looks really good and I’m looking forward to working with others on it.

Come and join this fortnightly discussion group – it will be well worth it!  THURS from 28 Feb, 1-2.30pm, $10 p/f, includes a cuppa & cake  For more information check out our workshops page

We may also look at beginning an online group if we have enough interest – let us know what you want.

Workshops, Term 1, 2013

We are excited to offer some different types of workshop at The Honeyclock in Term 1 of 2013.  We still have felting and pastel drawing for those of you eager to get your hands busy and your heart singing with the joy of creating.  Add to that the possibility of creating a fashion talking piece in the form of a button necklace, made with all your old buttons!  But we’re adding some ‘life classes’ too!  Some opportunities to talk and share, to discuss matters close to your heart, and to learn some new ways of thinking about things.   All the information is on our WORKSHOP  page.  We look forward to your interest!  Give us a call to book your place and, even better, find a friend to bring too!
